Energy Saving: Useful Tips and Rules of Plan and Methods

EXPENSIVE BILL
In a few weeks, autumn will arrive and with the excessive increase in the cost of electricity and gas, every family or company will find itself incurring higher costs than those previously incurred for the same period.

To overcome the excessive costs related to heating, the following precautions can be followed (they have also been recommended by ENEA):

  1. Maintain your facilities. Less consumption and pollution is caused if the system is properly regulated. It is advisable to clean the system and remove excess limescale.
  2. Check the temperature of the rooms. The standard provides for a temperature of 20 degrees plus 2 tolerance. It is important to know that for each degree less you save from 5 to 10% on consumption. The ideal is to set the temperature close to 20°C in the living area and 18°C in the sleeping area.
  3. Install reflective panels between the wall and the radiator. It is a very effective solution to limit heat loss to the outside. If there is no possibility of intervening with more performing and durable solutions, even a simple sheet of aluminum foil may be sufficient in the short term.
  4. Screen windows at night. Closing shutters and shutters or arranging heavy curtains reduces heat loss to the outside.
  5. Avoid obstacles in front of and above radiators. Placing curtains in front of radiators hinders the diffusion of heat to the environment.
  6. Have a check‐up at your home. It is important to carry out an energy diagnosis of the building to assess the state of the thermal insulation of walls and windows and the efficiency of the air conditioning systems. With the diagnosis it is possible to know the interventions to be carried out by evaluating the cost-benefit ratio. The launch of interventions aimed at reducing energy consumption also allows you to take advantage of the tax deductions provided for by law.
  7. Choose innovative heating systems. Consider replacing the old generator with new, more performing ones. Since 2015 it is only possible to install condensing boilers. It is advisable to consider replacing the old heat generator with a condensing one or with a high-efficiency heat pump. Biomass-powered boilers and hybrid systems (condensing boiler and heat pump) combined with solar thermal systems to heat water and photovoltaic systems to produce electricity are also available. Also for these interventions it is possible to take advantage of the tax relief provided for by law.
  8. Choose innovative technological solutions. The installation of an automatic temperature control unit is able to avoid peaks or sudden changes in power, allowing hourly, daily and weekly programming (which allows further energy savings).
  9. Install thermostatic valves. These devices are used to regulate the flow of hot water in the radiators, allowing the temperature set for space heating not to be exceeded. Mandatory by law in condominiums, thermostatic valves allow the reduction of consumption by up to 20%.

To save on your electricity bill, you need to change your daily habits:

  1. Use LED bulbs. Use LED bulbs to save on light. High-efficiency fluorescent bulbs cost more than incandescent bulbs, but they are a safe and reliable investment. LED lamps also have a longer life than lamps with more obsolete technologies.
  2. Respect the rate you have chosen. For example, if you have a two-hour tariff, it is good to use appliances at times when you have a lower cost.
  3. Keep consumption under control. There are electricity meters on the market for private homes, which allow you to check how much your appliances are
    consuming.
  4. Install a home automation system for the management of household appliances and energy consumption;
  5. Install a photovoltaic system By installing photovoltaic panels you have the possibility of producing electricity independently and
  6. independent. By combining the photovoltaic system with storage batteries, there is the possibility of storing excess energy to use it when the system is no longer productive (at night or in periods of low lighting).
  7. Disconnect appliances from the electricity grid that you are not using or that you rarely use, this simple operation allows you to considerably reduce electricity consumption.

STUDIO 36 – Eng. Matteo Rossi works in the energy efficiency sector by designing and implementing interventions for public administrations, individuals and companies. Our approach involves:

  • Expeditious analysis for the identification of critical issues and the most appropriate efficiency measures;
  • Summary estimate of any costs to be incurred and the benefits that the intervention could entail;
  • Launch of the energy study of the BUILDING-PLANT system, with extrapolation of the “benefit costs” and identification of the return on investment times;
  • Design of the chosen interventions;
  • Monitoring of the interventions planned and implemented.

All activities are carried out maintaining a constant relationship with the client, the project activities are carried out according to the budget made available by the client!
